Party Planning Tips and Ideas

Party planning should be part of the fun when holding a party. A well-organized and enjoyable party does not happen by chance. One should approach the process in as systematic a way as you can so that you can become a guest in your own party when the day comes.

Party Planning

Here are some basic considerations before you start your party planning:

  1. What is the party occasion? The answer to this question will determine to a great extent the other arrangements that will have to be made for the party.
  2. Will you have a party theme?
  3. Where will you hold the party? In your house? A community hall? A hotel? A restaurant?
  4. How many guests are you inviting?
  5. Do you have to work within a budget?

Once you have arrived at the answers to the above party planning basic considerations, you can now work out the rest of the details about your party. Is it a birthday party? Then you should order a birthday cake complete with correct number of individual candles or the age of the person wrought in wax regardless of whether the celebrant is a kid or an adult. Provisions should also be made for a place where the cake can be displayed and have room for the candle-blowing ceremony.  You may want to dim the lights in the room and invite everybody to sing the “Happy Birthday” song. You should also decide beforehand when you would serve the cake. For this purpose, the saucers and the cutlery needed must be handy. The appropriate party drinks should also be served at this time – champagne, punch or soda, etc – depending on your budget. Party drinks ideas may be carefully considered with your budget in mind.

The party theme will depend on the event. Occasions such as a birthday, a wedding or a graduation will more or less dictate the party theme, the decorations, the party drinks ideas and the attire for your party. Will you be serving alcoholic drinks as part of your party drinks? It is always prudent to clearly inform your guests as to what the party occasion is so that they may be guided accordingly. Some guests can be quite touchy about coming to your party wearing the wrong attire and can ruin the event for the other guests.

Party Planning | Party Venue

Will your party be held indoors or outdoors? The weather may pose certain problems for outdoor parties. The host must make adequate provisions for a Plan B, just in case it rains or snows or whatever, depending on which part of the country you live in or the season in the year. The location of the party venue will determine the number of guests you can invite and also allow or limit the other activities that you can have for your party.  Do you have enough room to have parlor games for children? If yes, be ready with the game props as well as prizes for the winners. Is there floor space for ballroom dancing at an adult party? Will you have live music? Will there be room in the place for the musicians to sit while providing the music? If not live music, then you should make sure that you would have the electronic equipment needed for everyone to hear the tunes, but not too loud as to drown out any semblance of conversation during the party.

The party food and party drinks must be planned to complement all the rest of the above items. Nevertheless, more than the food and drinks, parties are for bringing people together to share some good times.
